What we do on a microwave repair call

Microwaves contain a high-voltage circuit that can hold a dangerous charge even after the unit is unplugged, so internal repairs should be left to a technician. We safely discharge and test the circuit before replacing any part.

Typical repairs include door switches, fuses, high-voltage diodes and capacitors, magnetrons, turntable motors, control boards and touch pads. Over-the-range models also have vent fans and lights that we service.

Not every microwave is worth repairing. After diagnosis we give you the repair price so you can decide whether a repair or a replacement makes more sense. If you choose a new over-the-range unit, we also install them.

Common causes we find

Failed high-voltage diode, capacitor or magnetron

These parts produce the heat. When one fails, the microwave usually runs normally but does not warm food.

Blown fuse or failed door switch

Door switches tell the microwave the door is safely closed. A faulty switch can blow the fuse or stop the unit from starting.

Control board or touch pad failure

An unresponsive panel or a unit that shuts off at random can point to the control board or the keypad.

Turntable motor or coupler

A worn coupler or failed motor stops the plate from turning, leading to uneven heating.
