What we do on a washer repair call
A washer that will not drain is usually a pump obstruction or a failed drain pump, not a dead machine. A washer that fills but will not spin is often a lid switch, door lock, drive belt or motor control issue. Because those repairs vary widely in cost, we diagnose first and quote second.
Front-load machines bring their own pattern of problems: door boot tears, bearing noise on spin, drain filters packed with coins and lint, and odor from standing water. Top-load machines more often fail at the lid lock, shift actuator, clutch or transmission. We service both, along with stacked laundry centers.

Common causes we find
Blocked or failed drain pump
The single most common washer call. Socks, coins and hair pins reach the pump; sometimes clearing it solves the problem, sometimes the pump motor is already burned out.
Door lock or lid switch failure
Modern washers will not spin unless the machine is certain the door is latched. A ten-dollar switch can look exactly like a dead washer.
Worn drum bearings or suspension
Grinding on the spin cycle, or a machine that walks across the laundry room, points at bearings, shocks or suspension rods rather than an unbalanced load.
Clogged inlet screens or bad water valve
Slow filling or a cycle that stalls at the fill step is usually sediment in the inlet screens or a failing water inlet valve.
Control board and sensor faults
Error codes should be read, not reset and ignored. We pull the code, test the circuit it points to, and replace the part that actually failed.
