What we do on a refrigerator repair call

Most refrigerator failures come down to a handful of parts: the evaporator fan, the defrost system, the condenser coils and fan, the start relay, the thermistor, or the sealed system itself. The symptom you see — warm milk, a freezer full of frost, water pooling under the crisper — usually points to one of those. The job is to confirm which, not to guess.

We service side-by-side, French door, top and bottom freezer, and built-in refrigerators from Whirlpool, GE, LG, Samsung, KitchenAid, Frigidaire, Bosch, Sub-Zero, Maytag, Kenmore, Electrolux and Amana. Many repairs — fans, relays, defrost heaters, thermostats, door gaskets, water valves and ice maker assemblies — are completed on the first visit.

If a refrigerator is not worth repairing, we say so. We do not sell appliances, so there is no incentive to talk you into a part you do not need or a replacement you did not ask about.

Common causes we find

Failed evaporator fan motor

The freezer stays cold while the fresh food side warms up. Cold air is never moved forward. Usually an audible clue: the fan is silent or ticking when the door switch is bypassed.

Defrost system failure

A bad defrost heater, thermostat or control board lets frost cover the evaporator coil until airflow stops. Symptom: gradual warming over several days plus a wall of ice in the freezer.

Dirty or blocked condenser coils

The most preventable failure we see. Coils packed with dust and pet hair make the compressor run non-stop and never reach temperature — common in homes with pets and in hot inland summers.

Bad start relay or compressor

A clicking sound every few minutes with no cooling usually means the relay. A relay is an affordable repair; a failed sealed system on an older unit often is not, and we will tell you which one you have.

Clogged defrost drain

Water under the crisper drawers or across the kitchen floor is almost always a frozen or clogged drain line, not a leaking water supply.

Questions homeowners ask

How fast can you get to a refrigerator that stopped cooling?

Refrigerator calls get priority. Same-day appointments are available most days, and we work Monday through Saturday from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

Is it worth repairing my refrigerator?

It depends on the failed part and the age of the unit. Fans, relays, thermostats, gaskets and ice makers are almost always worth fixing. A failed sealed system on a ten-plus-year-old unit often is not — we give you the numbers and let you decide.

Do you repair built-in and Sub-Zero refrigerators?

Yes. Built-in and column refrigerators are part of our regular work, including door alignment, gasket replacement and control diagnostics.
