What we do on a dryer repair call
Three symptoms cover most dryer calls. No heat is typically a thermal fuse, heating element, igniter, flame sensor or gas valve coil. No tumble is usually a broken belt, seized idler pulley or drum roller. Long dry times are almost always airflow — a restricted vent line, a lint-packed blower housing, or a crushed transition duct behind the machine.
Airflow problems matter beyond convenience. A dryer that takes three cycles to dry a load is running hot with nowhere to send the heat, which shortens the life of the element and is a fire risk. When we find a restricted vent, we tell you exactly where the restriction is.

Common causes we find
Blown thermal fuse
A thermal fuse is a safety device, and it almost never fails on its own — it blows because airflow was restricted. Replacing the fuse without clearing the vent just blows the next one.
Failed heating element or igniter
Electric dryers lose the element; gas dryers lose the igniter, flame sensor or valve coils. Both look identical from the laundry room: tumbling with cold air.
Broken belt, idler pulley or drum rollers
A humming motor with a stationary drum is a belt. A rhythmic thumping that gets louder over weeks is rollers or the idler.
Restricted vent line
Long runs, crushed flex duct behind the machine, and lint-packed roof or wall vents are the leading cause of long dry times in the homes we visit.
Bad door switch or start switch
A dryer that is completely dead often has power but no start signal — a switch or thermal cutoff rather than a control board.
